Thank you for your support at home with the Biography Book Reports.  It was nice to see your family at Curriculum Night.  East is a great place to learn!!

Upcoming Dates:
Jan.31st- After-school Math Help 3:30-4:00
Feb.2nd- Early Out
Feb.4th- Homework and January Calendar Due
March 15- Kindergarten Registration 11-3

Utah State Core Update:

Math- Reviewing Chp.9 in Fractions and Testing
             Students are welcome to stay after on Mondays from
             3:30-4:00 if they need extra-help. Notice attached permission
             sheet.
Reading- Your students have taken their Winter Dibels test.
See the attached sheet for their score.  Please encourage your student to read nightly at home.  As a class we will be reading the story “ William Shakespeare and the Globe.”  We will be using the strategy of fact vs.opinion.
Spelling- List 17 suffixes with –eer, -ist, -ian, -or, and –er

Science- Reviewing Heredity and Testing. Moving onto
                 Electricity.
Writing- Our computer based writing test is coming soon. Please encourage your student to practice typing stories on their home computer.

Come and walk around our classroom to see what your student has been learning. Picture slideshow and refreshments. Multi-Cultural Fair in the gym and cafeteria. I’ll look forward to seeing your family.

Utah State Core Update:
Math- Chp.9-Fractions: Simplest Form, Writing     
      fractions as a decimal and review.
Spelling- List 16 words that end in –able,
        -ess. Study words for Friday test!
Science-Heredity Review
Social Studies- “ The Constitution”
Reading- Hattie’s Birthday Box
Writing- Our Direct Writing Assessment is coming up in February.  Please encourage your student to practice keyboarding skills and writing at home.

Spelling- List #13-Troublesome Words/ Vocabulary Words
Social Studies- Unit 2:  Building a New Nation
Science- Heredity     
Reading- “Oceans” by Seymour Simon- Genre: Non-fiction.
Language- Text Structure- Main Idea and Details, Subject and Object Pronouns.
Writing- 4-square method and Writing a Persuasive Letter

** Please provide any opportunity for practicing typing skills at home.  Students need to perfect the habit of keeping both hands on the keyboard and know the home row keys.  Encourage them to type a 5-paragraph story, spelling words, grocery list, chores, goals, etc…

** Our next Book Report Topic= Biographies.  Start thinking of a person you are interested in learning more about.  Must have been born in the year 1950 or before.

I hope you had a wonderful Christmas and a nice break.  I’m excited to see all of my students again!  Encourage your students to get to bed earlier and eat a good breakfast. Thanks for your support!!
